To ensure the quality and uptime of its mobile communications network, this mobile technology leader monitors the digital signals transmitted by cellular towers. When it came time to expand its mobile TV service, the company began flying technicians to markets across North America to oversee cellular site test procedures and gather data for analysis at its headquarters on the West Coast of the U.S. Engineers placed testing equipment in rental vehicles driven by a temporary staffing agency and coordinated test procedures from their hotel.
After a rise in incidents with the temporary drivers, the company needed a better approach. It decided to leverage its relationship with Avis to take the program in a new direction.
Solution
The company has outsourced driving services and transportation management for its mobile testing program to the team at Avis Chauffeur Drive by WeDriveU since 2008. WeDriveU delivered approximately 50,000 driving hours for year-round programs in 2009 - 2010 alone.
Under the program, WeDriveU managed training and staffing for an average of 3 - 5 drivers in multiple markets each week. After setting up equipment in Avis sedans and SUVs and distributing routes to the drivers, engineers were able to orchestrate simultaneous test procedures from a central hotel.
Based on the program’s success, the company expanded its use of Avis Chauffeur Drive and replaced another driving services vendor with WeDriveU. Today, WeDriveU meets engineers across the U.S., providing over 2,000 driving hours each month for assignments ranging from 1 - 6 months. WeDriveU’s team drives the Avis vehicles on designated routes while technicians operate equipment, perform testing, gather and transmit data from the back seat.
Results
Avis Chauffeur Drive is a key part of this successful program, delivering significant cost savings and improving productivity and safety. Driving incident rates are down and engineers can focus on monitoring and enhancing service reliability, which in turn improves customer service and loyalty.
WeDriveU’s chauffeurs consistently earn praise for their professionalism and local knowledge, and the team reports positive feedback on the comfortable and spacious Avis vehicles.
